Bring baseball to the SNES with Super Bases Loaded! Two in a row when it comes to ports, but this one is from the NES. This is going to be another shorter review, because it’s basically the same game, but I’ll point out some differences that exist, as well as some important similarities.
The baseball season you may want still doesn’t exist. You’re trying to play the perfect game against the most difficult team. The view for batting is still in the wrong spot, behind the pitcher. Batting has you choosing mid, high, or low for your swing. The fielding view is still upside down. Pitching is still pretty difficult to get down correctly. I was able to make some faster pitches, even if placement was a real pain.
What’s different is when you put the ball into play, there is a mini map that not only shows the baserunners, but also shows where the ball is and where the player you are controlling is. This makes fielding playable, even if it still isn’t fun. I want to know how long it took you to get a perfect game, because I sure won’t be doing it.
Graphics: 2.0
The graphics are slightly more colorful than the NES version.
Sound: 2.0
The sound effects are decent here, and the music is fine.
Gameplay: 1.0
Pitching works slightly better. Fielding still sucks, but at least there’s a mini map that shows where your player is.
Difficulty: 1.5
The slight bump in gameplay makes the game less punishing, but not by much.
Fun Factor: 1.0
I’d choose this over Bases Loaded 3, but not much else.
Overall Rating: 1.5
Super Bases Loaded earns a C-. This still isn’t a very good baseball game, but it’s an improvement over its little brother.
