Ranking: The Worst of 1986

Ranking the worst of 1986 Video on YouTube

The worst of 1986.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to Georg Mack Plays the Classics! Not every game can be a good one. In the early days, there were a lot of below average games looking to take your hard earned cash. Today, we are going to look at the five worst games on NES and Sega Master System.

SMS 5. Action Fighter – C- (1.5)

Riding down the road, collecting letters.

This one isn’t terrible, but I would say it’s impossible if you don’t enter the impervious to bullets cheat.

NES 5. Popeye – D (1.2)

Bluto just took a spinach fueled punch to the face.

I would have liked it better if it was Donkey Kong. Bad graphics, poor sound, lame gameplay.

SMS 4. Marksman Shooting & Trap Shooting – C- (1.5)

The lovely vistas of trap shooting.

This isn’t so much a bad game, as it was just the bottom of the Master System pile. It’s a poor man’s Hogan’s Alley.

NES 4. 1942 – D (1.2)

Using the safe spot to kill the giant plane.

We’ve got some bad arcade ports coming up. 1942 is slow, ugly, and the sound makes me want to scream. Its only saving grace is a proper difficulty level.

SMS 3. Great Ice Hockey – D (0.9)

I probably didn’t score here.

The first Sega Sports outing falls flat on its face. It plays horribly and makes me sad.

NES 3. Commando – D (1.0)

At least the tower looks cool.

There’s really nothing redeeming here. Graphics, sound, gameplay, fun factor, all bottom of the barrel.

SMS 2. World Grand Prix – D (0.8)

This shows precisely how I feel about this game.

I really don’t know what Sega was thinking. They already had Hang-On, which is a subjectively and objectively better game. This was worse in every way.

NES 2. Mario Bros. – D (0.8)

Test your skill by turning this crap off.

If you’re going to port an arcade game that is already many years old, at least make it look and sound nice. Nintendo apparently lost that memo and released this turd.

SMS 1. My Hero – D- (0.6)

You earn a jump kick to the head for being terrible.

Ugh… after playing Kung Fu, coming to this trash made me sick. The music, graphics, and gameplay all belong in the garbage bin.

NES 1. Tag Team Wrestling – E (0.4)

Please just put me out of my misery.

But the single most unplayable game so far goes to Tag Team Wrestling. Data East probably should have played this thing before releasing it. It’s awful and I hope no one ever plays it again.

There you have it, the worst games released in 1986 for both the NES and Master System. 1987 promises to be a much better year and I’m going to be way better off then.
