Global Defense
System: SMS
Release Date: March 1988
Developer: Sega
Publisher: Sega
Genre: Shoot ‘em Up
This is going to be a short one, because Global Defense is terrible and damn near unplayable. This is a space shooter game with some of the worst controls I’ve ever experienced. You control a satellite and need to shoot down all the enemies on screen that you see.
The d-pad doesn’t control the satellite though. No, it controls the on screen cross-hairs. You shoot with the 2 Button and can hold it down for rapid fire. The shot goes to the cross-hairs ignoring everything on its way. If you want to move your satellite, you need to hold the 1 Button while using the d-pad. This is terrible.
You start with the offensive half. You’ll be trying to destroy the enemies on screen and unfortunately miss out on moving your satellite and die. Of course, time stops after you die, which allows you to destroy everything left on screen. If you manage to make it through the offensive half, you move to the defensive half and have to destroy everyone there before your power bar is depleted.
