There are three main modes of play. You can take part in a tournament, regular stroke play, or take on an opponent in match play. Choose your caddy and make sure he’s the one you really want. When you get to the hole, you can see the direction to the hole. You have the ability to move where you’re aiming by pressing left or right. Then you choose your club based on the distance to the hole. Where you strike the ball is based on where the red cursor is when you click to swing. Different spots on the ball have different effects like a top spin or back spin.
The big take away I have from Waialae is wind. There is a lot of wind. It really makes the game unplayable. I expect a little wind, sure, but 20 miles per hour is egregious. How do I adjust my shot to take that into account? It didn’t feel very consistent, so I found myself quite annoyed. The holes don’t feel different from one another. The information about the slope of the greens doesn’t always come up, leading to many two or three putts.

Everything looks digitized, which is novel in my opinion.

Very sparse sound. I realize I captured microphone audio and heard the YouTube video I had on in the background. Whoops.

This is not as intuitive as other golf titles out there.

The wind makes playing 18 holes ridiculous.

I didn’t find myself enjoying this course and wanted it to be over quickly.

True Golf Classics: Waialae Country Club earns a C-. This is not a game I would ever come back to. Stay away from it.
