Seicross

System: NES

Release Date: October 1988

Developer: Nihon Bussan

Publisher: FCI

Genre: Shoot ‘em Up

Seicross is another team up between Nihon Bussan and FCI. Maybe not surprisingly, it plays somewhat similar to MagMax. Why release two very similar games in the same month? Companies that don’t understand market cannibalization, that’s who!

Seicross is a 2.5D sidescrolling bike shooter. You move on the course avoiding or destroying enemies. You are equipped with lasers that are activated with both the A and B Buttons. Enemies are both stationary bases that shoot at you and also other bike riders. The riders can be bumped into the walls and other obstacles on the course.

You are tasked with saving the Petras beings, who are dressed in purple and flailing their arms. The bike does run out of energy and in order to refill the gauge, you must drive over energy packs. Some enemy structures can be destroyed, others must be avoided. The odd levels seem to move more quickly and are populated by other bikers. The even levels seem to be slower and are mainly avoid the obstacle courses.

Graphics: 1.5

Nihon Bussan seems to have been interested in the 2.5D style of graphics.

Sound: 1.0

The music just doesn’t feel appropriate for the gameplay style.

Gameplay: 1.0

Very simplistic gameplay. You can run into enemy bikers, but nothing else.

Difficulty: 1.5

I felt it was pretty easy to learn and probably would have been pretty decent at it if it was any fun.

Fun Factor: 0.5

This game isn’t fun though and I didn’t give it a ton of play time to become proficient.

Overall Grade: 1.1

Seicross earns a D. It’s not a particularly good game. I’d stay away if I were you.
