Jack Nicklaus’ Turbo Golf
System: TG-16
Release Date: September 1990
Developer: Accolade
Publisher: Accolade
Genre: Sports
Take it to 18 of the top holes in the world in Jack Nicklaus’ Turbo Golf! This is a port of Jack Nicklaus’ Greatest 18 Holes of Major Championship Golf on the NES. It’s Jack’s favorite 18 holes. Choose skins or stroke play.
You have a three click swing mechanic. Overpowering your shot causes you to hook or slice significantly if you aren’t perfect. You need the manual to know how far the clubs will swing. Loading is excruciating between shots. Don’t be too far left or right or you will suffer an out of bounds penalty.
The greens are awful, aiming to the hole forces you to find a straight line with the hole in between you and your aim. Taking the breaks of the green into account, of course. This is such a poor golf game, why have I been subjected to it again?
Graphics: 1.0
The game looks only slightly better than the NES version which was 6 months ago on a weaker system.
Sound: 0.5
Music between holes, otherwise lifeless and barren.
Gameplay: 1.0
They didn’t upgrade this game at all in the slightest.
Difficulty: 0.5
It’s so slow, the typical shot is too sensitive, and the putting is a nightmare.
Fun Factor: 0.5
There’s very little fun to have here.
Overall Rating: 0.7
Jack Nicklaus’ Turbo Golf earns a D-. This is a horrible version of a bad NES game. I would stay far, far away.
